WWD & Disney for New York Fashion Week

The Ask:

In celebration of New York Fashion Week and the Barney’s New York Electric Holiday collaboration with Disney, WWD—the world’s fashion news of record—was asked to create a collaborative piece that highlighted Walt Disney characters in the designs created for them by real, globally-renown designers like Lavin, Dolce & Gabbana, and Balenciaga.

The Vibes:

In celebration of New York Fashion Week and the Barney’s New York Electric Holiday collaboration with Disney, WWD—the world’s fashion news of record—was asked to create a collaborative piece that highlighted Walt Disney characters in the designs created for them by real, globally-renown designers like Lavin, Dolce & Gabbana, and Balenciaga.

The Strategy:

To pull this off, we had to create a truly collaborative environment. As the lead creative, strategist, writer, and project manager on this piece, I had to ensure that all stakeholders were informed of our plans, aligned with their brand role, and happy with the end result. It was a delicate balance but the common thread was a desire from all parties to do something unexpected, newsworthy, and never-before-seen.

The Result:

This cover wrap became a version of WWD itself, utilizing best-loved sections of the daily newspaper such as The Eye (here called “The Ear,” invoking the iconic mouse ears) and Sketch Pad (here, Mouse Pad) to ensure that audiences would connect with the content in a way that felt familiar and resonant.
