Who Is This Weirdo?
The ancient Irish called people like me Seanchai, or storyteller. The yarn spinner, the historian, the keeper of lore.
I’ve told stories my whole life: I started as an avid reader and evolved to writing fiction-by-request for my friends at sleepovers (spoiler: they always found true love).
My career brought me to some of the most hallowed halls of publishing, writing custom content for brands you’ll definitely recognize.
From there, I went to work directly for clients. Add strategy, collaboration, creativity, and a knack for communicating with my friends solely by meme, and that’s me in a nutshell.
Working With Me: The Vibes
I Love A Whiteboard
What’s nearsighted and loves brainstorming meetings? ME. Weird? Yes. True? Also yes. I live for collaboration. I want to meet your designers, your editors, your clients, your stakeholders. If there’s anyone who wants to jump in on this creative process, tell them to come sit by me.
I Bow At The Altar Of The Two-Headed Creative God
That’s Design & Copy. They should work with each other, be flexible, and collaborate—always. Your CD says the headline can only be one word that’s three letters long? Y-E-S I can!
I Will Do What I Say I Am Going To Do.
Despite being a Sagittarius when I commit, I am ALL IN. Whatever wild thing we agree on I will get it done—and the mundane stuff, too. I meet every deadline, I button-up every revision. You have enough to worry about, you don’t have to worry about me.
I Don’t Make It Complicated.
I write the way I speak, minus the swearing. It’s how I connect with your audience. Marketing speak is the absolute worst.
I Will Be Your Hype Woman
You think your mom is proud? Just wait. I love to talk up the people, brands, and projects that I believe in. I understand the value of what you have to say, and so I will make sure your audience hears it.
I’ve Got You
I know that it can be nerve-wracking to put your work out there for the world to pick apart. It’s my goal to make sure you’re successful. We’re in this together.
We’ll Do This Again
I mean this in the least-stalker-y way possible: You’ll never get rid of me. Most of my freelance work comes from folks I’ve worked with before, and I value the connections I’ve made in the creative industry. I have gotten to work with the absolute best of the best, so I am always excited when I can do it again. This is just the beginning for us.
Timing Is Everything.
My career timeline, so far:
Started big with my first gig-Rolling Stone Magazine. Hired as an Advertising Assistant, I was promoted to Copywriter within two years.
Next up, Book Of The Month Club. I got to keep the books (score!)
Then, it was back to big leagues as Senior Copywriter at New York Magazine.
For my next trick, I took a detour into the wellness space at Weider Media, writing for Shape Magazine, Star Magazine, Fit Pregnancy, Natural Health.
Be still my shopper’s heart: My next stint was one of my favorites, Lucky Magazine. Named Copy Director, it the first of many gigs at Condé Nast.
Whiplash: New York Magazine calls me back, this time to their new downtown digs, to serve as Copy Director.
Next, I took a leap, kicking off my freelance career with long term gigs at Lucky & Bon Appetit.
Called upon by some of my favorite former colleagues (and lured by the free beauty samples), I took a permalance role at Allure Magazine as Copy Director.
A few years later, the Lucky Magazine crew had a sort-of reunion, with many of us flocking to serve at Women’s Wear Daily/Fairchild, where I was Copy Director.
After that, I landed my first gig at Time Inc Corporate, later to become The Foundry. There, I strategized and wrote for Time, People, In Style, Cooking Light, serving as Copy Director and working closely with the entire creative team.
Then your girl making big move: Let Julia Write It launched as a side-to-permanent hustle, with clients including MILK Studios, FLOS USA, Liquid IV, Chrissy Tiegen, Condé Nast Publications, Meredith Inc., NBC Universal, Marley Beverage Co., Walmart, Cosmetics Executive Women, Dagne Dover & more.
Finally, I made my way to retail, serving Gabe’s Stores & Old Time Pottery as the Senior Creative Director.
What’s next, you ask?
Anything.
